Love Detroit Prevention Coalition Highlights!
Love Detroit Prevention Coalition. The Youth Connection and Dr. Grenae Dudley were featured in a WDIV (Channel 4) segment on the 11:00 news about the rise of fentanyl in Detroit and especially rainbow fentanyl.
Four of our youth, along with our community organizer, presented at the 2022 Mid-Year Conference of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) this July with representatives from around the country. The LDPC Youth Committee presented at this conference asking participants to engage their youth to help them determine what in their communities serve as risk and protective factors. Our youth shared the research they conducted using surveys to determine what were risk and protective factors in their communities, why youth were smoking marijuana, and how to address mental health concerns. They presented their Photovoice projects and their environmental scans.
Anika Jackson, A student at John J. Pershing High School, participates in the Detroit Police Department Explorers Program and participated in our Narcan Training. Anika’s mother notice someone that was having an opioid overdose. Anika’s mother call her about the situation, and Anika was able to tell her mom step by step how to administer Naloxone (Narcan). Anika and her mother saved a life! They were awarded by The Youth Connection, Love Detroit Prevention Coalition, Detroit Police Department Explorers Program, Detroit Health Department, and Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network at the DPD 11th Precinct!
Love Detroit Prevention Coalition, The Youth Connection and Detroit Health Department was awarded a plaque of appreciation from The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for our efforts in collecting nearly 70,000 pounds of prescription medications during the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day held in April & October 2021 in the City of Detroit!
In honor of Red Ribbon Week, youth from Dove Academy of Detroit, The Detroit Police Department Explorers Academy & Pershing High School pledged to be DRUG FREE! Red Ribbon Week is from October 23rd – October 31st. It's celebrated in honor of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.
